Update Section 301 related to the lack of measures against forced labour

24 April, 2026

Time line tariffs United States
The United States government has taken a number of measures that directly impact our exports. Next, a timeline with the most important points:
• 2 April 2025: The U.S. government. The U.S. issues Executive Order 14257 to impose universal "reciprocal tariffs" based on emergency powers (IEEPA).
• February 20, 2026: The Supreme Court declares IEEPA tariffs illegal, determining that the president cannot use the law to collect taxes.
• February 24, 2026: In an immediate response, the Trump government activates Section 122 of its Trade Act, imposing a 10% temporary global tariff for up to 150 days
• March 2026: As Section 122 is a temporary measure, under Section 301, EE. United States. It could impose trade measures on some countries.

What is Section 301 doing?
It is a tool that allows the US government (through the USTR - United States Trade Representative) to investigate and respond to foreign business practices that they consider unfair, unreasonable or harmful to the US trade. United States.
The United States will assess whether Colombia and 59 other countries are failing to effectively prohibit and block the import of goods produced by forced labour. The premise is that allowing these goods to enter creates a "artificial cost advantage" that forces American workers to compete under unfair conditions.
If the investigation determines that the Colombian government does not take sufficient measures against the products derived from forced labour and that this affects the US industry. The United States would open the door to impose commercial reprisals (such as new tariffs, quotas or blockades on Colombian exports). The process will require formal consultations and hearings scheduled for April 2026.
